Since we have been hearing and seeing and reading about the New York and London Fashion Week constantly, I thought this was a good time for a runway trend alert. The runways bring up a lot of trends and most of them are great to see on the runway. But I usually want to leave them there and cannot realistically think of wearing most of these trends – actually walking down a street and not looking completely ridiculous. I decided to pick out the 2015 fashion trends I liked from the recent runways. These are basically things I can see myself actually wearing. First one up is definitely my favourite jewellery trend – ever! (Close second, stacked rings). This trend has already trickled down to the high street stores. I actually like the non-metal ones better although I love the heavy chain link necklaces too. Lets start out with this simple choker-necklace.
And do you remember these? If you grew up in the 90’s you will definitely know what I am talking about! I cannot believe these are actually back in fashion but if Topshop is selling them I am pretty sure they are! I actually have one which I am going to dig out. Does this qualify as vintage jewellery? (I can almost see my mum rolling her eyes). 🙂
And this is the choker I want now!
And this is probably my limit for runway to street style. I am pretty sure Bidisha would physically stop me from buying this. But if you want a dramatic goth look this is the most extreme it could get.
The next trend up is one which I absolutely detest in its original unfashionable version – the backpack. This is now the mini backpack, structured backpack, bucket bag – whatever you may call it. I am quite surprised I like these – although I do like a very specific version of it. I like the small ones, slightly structured and in fun colours. Its not a fun colour but I definitely like the straps – very interesting. And shoulder straps are very important for a backpack.
This is the last black one I promise. I like this because its formal enough to take to work. How cool is that?
And I loved these cute colourful ones.
Also, right now I cannot resist anything with tassels and love the unexpected mint colour.
The next trend is one I have had mixed feelings about. Yes – gladiator sandals are back. I am not a big fan of some the extreme gladiators which have recently been seen on the runways. I just think its a little OTT (over-the-top) and just doesn’t look effortless or easy. I don’t mind the really high ones if it has simple straps or a minimalist look like this Vivienne Westwood one. Its slick and I love it.
I also liked these tan ones.
These are slightly on the OTT side but still simple enough to work. I also like the idea of wearing these with jeans and a tee. One thing I was bothered about is whether the straps in this one would fit well and not be loose. Thats one thing that really annoys me most about gladiator sandals. Ill fitting straps just make it look – for lack of a better word – uncool.
And the last one is this white pair I picture with a white summer dress – perfect! The only challenge now is to find a summer day in London!
So have you made up your mind yet? What are the trends you are willing to try and which ones are you definitely skipping?
