Years of living in a hostel and shared apartments have taught me the value of making the most of my space. Somehow no matter much spacious the rest of the house is, the bedroom continues to be the place where I end up keeping most of my stuff. My current roommates are my husband and our two cats, and I have to admit sometimes it does feel a little crowded ๐ So I often find myself looking for smart storage ideas for my bedroom. Browsing through decor and DIY blogs is literally my favorite thing to do, so I’m quite thrilled to write about out some of my favorite ideas to maximize the storage space in bedrooms.

Multipurpose Furniture – I love this ladder shelf piece. Why shouldn’t our furniture multitask as well as we do ๐ An ottoman doubling as bench, a shelf doubling as a desk, there really are no rules. Look for things that can be used in various ways to save on having to buy multiple pieces of furniture as well as creating a clutter free bedroom.

Hidden Shelving – I love this idea of a curtain hiding some extra shelving in the room. I find open closets quite messy and don’t really like the look of them. Lets face it, we all have messy moments and no way can the closet look magazine perfect at all times. A curtain to hide the mess is extremely useful and looks quite polished.
A Storage Bed – This one is a no brainer. Its literally the easiest way to sneak in some extra storage. Our bed has slide out drawers on the side where I store blankets, extra pillows and bedding. Theres absolutely no reason to waste that space under the bed. Sofa beds and ottoman beds are also a great way to do this. We teamed up with BedGuru to give you a chance to win a free bed! If you reside in the UK and would like to win an a FREE king size ottoman bed, head over here and check out all the rules!

Bookshelves Everywhere – I’ve always wanted to live surrounded by books, and this bed is just making all my dreams come true. It would be so easy to grab a book as soon as you wake up! ๐ Obviously the shelves can be used to keep other things as well. Quite a smart way to use an otherwise unitized space.

DIY Shelves – These are so easy to make and so multifunctional. No matter how small or large your room is, an extra shelf is always useful. From a makeshift vanity to a nightstand, you can literally turn a plank of wood into anything you need.
