I am sure I have mentioned this before but Other Stories is one of my favourite stores. I love their clothes, I love the store, even their makeup and toiletries. However, for the longest time I didn’t own any clothing from Other Stories. I used to walk in and just walk out because everything was so big for me. I always checked out their silk shirts and waited for them to go on sale to pick them up. But the ones I wanted were always sold out. So I finally got fed up with waiting and picked one up.
The Store and Shopping Experience:
Needless to say, I love the store, the experience and everything about it. The obvious problem is that there is just one in London and if you cant get yourself to it, ordering online is your only option. However, its not a popular store. Its not a well known store so most people just pass through to their sister brand H&M or Anthropologie further down the road. Which does keep it pretty empty and easy to move around in.
The Online Store:
Like I mentioned, since there is only one store in London, if the item you want isn’t available your only bet is ordering online. Now I haven’t actually ordered online but one of my pet peeves is with online stores that don’t deliver for free to their physical stores and don’t deliver for free. So this is a major disadvantage for me – you need to pay for delivery. Adding this to their sizing issue means I will definitely not be ordering online.
If their clothes fit me, my whole wardrobe would be from Other Stories. But Other Stories doesn’t do sizes smaller than 6 and does not do petite. Their dresses do not fit me at all. If you are taller/ bigger you are are sure to have better luck.
Outfit details: Camel culottes from Zara, white silk shirt from Other Stories (others), black faux leather jacket (similar in grey) from Forever 21, brown studded wedge heels from Topshop (worn in this), Chanel boy bag (similar and more affordable), round rimmed shades from Stradivarius (similar), belt from H&M, gold chain link pendant from ASOS (similar) and lipstick in Boots No. 7 in Sienna (similar).
Now I cannot say its a perfect fit but its a good fit. Yes, I do wish the sleeves were about at least an inch shorter and the shoulder could be pulled up half an inch but its not a bad fit. Honestly, I can’t be too fussy about fits and most clothing items are slightly big for me so I have learnt to live with it. But unless you are super petite like me, this should be a good fit for most people.
I am used to wearing Indian silk which I love so the slightly thinner Mulberry silk you get in Europe took a little getting used to. Its thinner and I perceive quality depending on how heavy the silk is and how thick the material is. But I cannot fault the quality of this garment. I have had it for almost a year or so now and have worn is at least once a month if not more often. I loved the print on the shirt – the perfect amount of colour for me!
The care label does state these shirts are to be dry cleaned. But you know my issues with dry cleaning – I mentioned this in my previous review and I am not a fan. I have not dry cleaned this one and it has survived. In fact I would say it has thrived! I just toss it into the machine with my other whites and no problem. I iron it myself but need to use an actual iron and cant use a steamer. It comes out quite creased from the machine and steaming it doesn’t manage to get the wrinkles out.
Their silk shirts are usually £69 and £35 on sale which I think is a fantastic deal. No, its not cheap but for a well made silk shirt I think its super reasonable. I didn’t end up getting my shirt on sale because its usually impossible to get hold of their white or cream shirts on sale – these sell out fast.
Now to summarise – will I buy again?
Absolutely. I already have my eye on this black one. Also what I love is I can wear these shirts to work and wear them out for dinner or wear them on the weekend and so on. I recommend these shirts to everyone looking for the staple silk shirt.
