Amsterdam and Haarlem – My Love for Travel

21 October 2015 · 13 Comments

Don’t I look happy? πŸ™‚ Besides fashion and clothes what I love is travelling. My work involves a lot of travel and that makes me love what I do. My shoots take place all over India and sometimes abroad. I also save so that every year I can make a trip abroad and one within India which involves no work. This year in the month of August three of my friends and I went to Europe. We managed to travel to six countries in the span of twenty four days. It was hectic but completely worth it!

Amsterdam

One of my favourite cities was Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands. We stayed in a hostel called Flying Pig Downtown Hostel. If you are going to Amsterdam, I totally recommend you to stay there. Its right where the shopping is, its near the central station and it’s very very lively. The photo you see below is the one I took from our room.

The canals are very pretty, we took an evening boat ride around the city. Amsterdam is definitely a party hub but it does have an old world charm.

Haarlem

Approximately, half an hour away by train is this small town called Haarlem. It felt like I was in a Harry Potter movie! Some parts of it reminded me of Narnia. The streets are cobbled, with coffee shops by the side, it has this beautiful gothic church. We sat by, drank some wine, the weather was beautiful – a perfect day.

Raspberries!

This is the first time I saw raspberries growing. The happiness I got just by looking at it! Also I had to drag my friend Erica away as she wanted to pluck and eat them!

Anisha’s Trip

In September, my sister Anisha along with her husband, DJ, and few friends also made a trip to Amsterdam and Haarlem. These are few of the pictures she took and I loved them. What impressed me about her trip was that they cycled from Amsterdam to Haarlem. I’m a little jealous as I would have loved to do the same!

The roads and weather was perfect for cycling. They went on Sunday so the shops and cafes were shut. So if you decide to do a trip there make sure you pick a weekday or Saturday when its more lively.

The pictures below are from the Amsterdam sign and the park below is the beautiful Vondelpark – must see.

She also managed to make a trip to the Heineken Brewery. It’s quite a fun experience. We all skipped the other museums since we were short on time but if you are an art lover, Amsterdam is quite a paradise.

If you live in Amsterdam or have visited often, let me know your recommendations please! I know I am going back again!

I have friends in the Netherlands and I always try to explore different places when I’m there to see them. I went to Den Bosch last time and it was lovely

[…] DJ and I have hesitated replacing the tub since no bath negatively affects the resale value of house in the UK. (We have never understood why but have been told the same thing time and again by friends, estate agents and so on). So some long-term considerations do need to be taken into account. In such cases you prioritise. We are still researching and deciding on our bathroom renovation (hence, this post!) but if down the line, would rather have a shower than bother about the long-term resale value, so be it. The prospect of a beautiful walk-in shower is tempting. Especially after I was reminded of how good it feels after using the shower in the fashion hotel in Amsterdam. […]
