After moving flat a year or so ago, home decor is the only thing I seem to be able to talk about. DJ and I are obsessed. We have been wanting to get our flat in order for so long now and it takes so long. Both DJ and I are Indian and having a home in London with shaving something with an Indian aesthetic was quite important for me. The only problem is colour – I actually don’t like colourful home decor in my own home. I visit friends and admire their colourful homes but just cannot get myself to commit to colour in my own home. And therein lies the problem. As you can imagine, Indian home decor is colourful so it has been a bit of a challenge to find something that isn’t colourful and suits my aesthetic.

To be fair, once I started looking into it, I realised how easy it was. Indian home decor items, especially furniture is solid, made to last generations and usually made of real wood, metal and so on. This suited me perfectly. The stores I loved in various categories are listed below.
Furniture
1. Ian Snow
This is the place for colourful Rajasthani furniture and home decor. I love the colourful pieces although I cannot imagine where they would fit in my flat but they are beautiful. Of course, there are some that are of more neutral colours
2. Ember Home
Ember has a substantial Indian style furniture section. The carvings on the furniture are so intricate.
Lighting and Accessories
3. Nkuku
I have bought everything from cutlery to lamps to candle holders from this store. The next items I have my eyes on is this absolutely gorgeous but ridiculously impractical printers drawers and this jewellery box.
Rugs
4. Soho Home
All their rugs are handmade in India by Indian craftspeople. I find them to be absolutely gorgeous. I already have two of their rugs, the and would probably buy more if I could but I have promised myself to branch out a little bit. Their rugs are mostly made of wool and you can find both hand knotted or hand tufted items.
5. Jaipur Rugs
Love their aesthetically Indian designs. They are beyond gorgeous. I mean, forget about actually owning it (the prices are absurd, but I don’t believe they are unreasonable for a hand-knotted wool and silk rug) but this is a work of art.

Antiques
6. Opium Shop
Unfortunately, the stuff here is gorgeous. Some similar to Ian Snow but they definitely have a larger variety and stock of Indian antiques. It is also unfortunately very expensive. I haven’t bought anything yet but I visit frequently and drool.

7. Birch & Yarn
This has similar items to Ian Snow I like the distressed look since I think it offsets the very elaborate colourful well.
Soft Furnishing
8. Rosie Dalia
There is an Indian brand called the Good Earth – frightfully expensive, very delicate and needless to say, exquisite stuff – and Rosie Dalia reminds of their style especially when it comes to their crockery.
9. Kapara
I have grown up in India using a ‘katha‘ which is a kind of embroidery but also used to mean these cotton blankets. I obviously get mine in India but if thats not a option for you, the blankets they have here look so cosy.
10. Homethreads In
I hate the idea of paper napkins so bought these lovely traditional block print napkins for a party. I do wish I had bought slightly larger ones (they shrink a little since its cotton) but can’t complain. They are also made from cut offs so perfect environmental friendly alternative.
