October is basically birthday month for me. Not because its my birthday but almost everyone around me has their birthday in October. Thats starting with my dad, mum, husband, best friend (Satarupa) and a number of friends. Now I am overdue on a number of gifts so decided to be a little bit more efficient about it instead of running around like a headless chicken at the last moment. I have been noting down various things people around me would like for presents and I esepcially think gift sets are great value. Some gift sets I liked were too person specific but some would definitely work for your near and dear ones as well, for birthdays, Diwali or Christmas or otherwise.
Anniversary (and birthday) gift for husband: Neither Dj and I are not particularly fond of surprises when it comes to gifts. I either give him a really nice tie (he wears ties to work everyday) or perfume. This time it was Tom Ford – highly recommended. The problem is of course its so expensive I skipped on his birthday gift – basically told him that its his anniversary cum birthday gift. But if you are really going all out, you can’t beat this Tom Ford set (you will find similar ones in all the other perfumes they have but this one is definitely my favourite). Its definitely getting you some insane number of brownie points! But I maintain that you don’t need to spend the big bucks to smell good!
Birthday gift for dad: Dads are seriously the worst to shop for. My dad has the added difficulty of not using perfume – he only uses aftershave. So my plan is to not fight it – just go with it. On that note, something like these shaving kits were an interesting plan. I wouldn’t want to give him something that wasn’t functional – I know he would not appreciate that as much so this would be the perfect balance. Functional but still a little bit more fun!
‘Just for fun’ gift for sister: When I mean a just for fun gift for sister, it implies fun for her, not me. Just wanted to make that clear.
Bidisha made me send her a pair of these lovely baby blue Stan Smith shoes. Which got me hooked onto the Adidas website. She might not appreciate the gesture but you know I love coordinated outfits. A coordinated work out set like this one (top and leggings) would be so cool! Lately I have been really obsessed with leggings with cool prints. All the leggings I wear to the gym and black. (Seriously.) Owning a pair of really cool colourful leggings is now on my wish list. Its way too much money to spend on leggings so there is no way I would spend that much to wear to the gym but if its a gift why not? (Also, would look really fun with those shoes!)

Birthday gift for the best friend:
I know if I ever eventually end up getting Satarupa a birthday gift it will probably be makeup. When I asked her (made sure she knew it was a hypothecial scenario) what should you like as presents she sent me links to this gorgeously absurd Victoria Beckham Estee Lauder gift set and this decadent mask. It was obviously a hint I didn’t take. Then she mentioned that if she had to gift someone makeup she would prefer to hand pick her favourite products and pack it nicely and sent it out – which I thought is the perfect way to go about it.

Christmas gift for mum: So my parents were here for almost a month and my mum’s birthday was on the 21st. By then they were seriously craving some Calcutta food so we ended up going to a place which has Indian Chinese food and the lunch was my mum’s birthday gift. So let’s go for something classier for Christmas! This was an easy pick. You already know I am a fan of L’occitane so a beauty gift set would be a good bet. My choice would most probably be the lavender trio but any one of these sets would probably be loved. With mum I always prefer to give gift sets with lots of items instead of one big gift!
Of course the best gift you can give someone is a unique designer sari! 🙂
You can also get a lot of gift ideas from our previous gift guides. I cannot wait for this weekend – its been a tough week at work. Its getting seriously wintery here and I just want to hibernate. Let me know what your weekend plans are – I am living vicariously through you guys!
