New Home, Old Clothes

28 March 2022 · Leave a Comment

We moved to a new home last weekend after living in the same place for more than 7 years. We have not only moved homes but moved from one part of London to an opposite part of London. Its further away from central London and has a more suburban feel to it than our flat in zone 1. Its been an adjustment to say the least for many reasons.

Of course the main factor is that its been our home for so long and we have some amazing memories in that flat. We are sentimentally attached to it. We remember friends and family coming and visiting us in that flat. We remember the parties. We remember the conversations, the arguments, the laughter and the food. Then the fact it was our home and made for us. Everything there was the way we wanted it, suited to our preference and arranged to our liking. And then there is the fact of the familiarity with the location and area around us. We knew where to buy the best coffee, where to get best Indian food and where to get the tastiest sourdough. It sounds odd since this was central London but I did feel like I was part of a community.

Old home

All of this sentimentality about our home, got me wondering why we are not more sentimental about our clothes. I remember reading an Instagram post asking about how come our clothes don’t have stories anymore. I remember reading about how dresses had cards included in the tags giving details of when the owner wore them. (I mean, of course, lets be honest, this wasn’t normal people but the upper classes only – who the hell would have had time for this?). Your wore your siblings clothes. Clothes got passed around between friends. You swapped clothes for parties. This tweet thread almost made me cry – how beautiful are these clothes and how beautiful are those memories?

I am SO jealous of this woman who was passed down all of her grandmothers clothing. Such beautiful pieces. Her grandma was clearly a material girl in her day. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/iXrIsHK70g

For me personally, there has always been something appealing about old clothes – the hand me downs from my mother and the hand me ups from my sister! I am already looking forward to wearing more of them this summer. Also, you may have seen this outfit before, only the shoes have been switched. The shoes were a part of my Reformation sample sale buy and are the Agathea chunky loafers.

Now on the new place, please follow along on Instagram and I will show you around once its in a somewhat decent condition and we are set up. Once the initial set up is done, one of the best things about a new place is definitely making it look as chic as possible. I am absolutely looking forward to that.

I am definitely back to my regular posting schedule now that the move is finally done with so please check back in next Monday.
