Summer Cotton Kurtas From Biba

7 April 2015 · 1 Comment

Summer has finally arrived. Here in Bangalore its seems to be getting warmer every day.  The perfect time to bring out the summer cottons and the bright prints.

Cotton kurtas are a must have to survive the Indian summer. They come in a huge range of colors and fits, and are the ideal items to mix and match. So when we were asked to collaborate with leading Indian wear brand BIBA to review some items from their new online store, we thought it would be fun and the perfect opportunity to do some different looks with some different types of Indian kurtas.

1. The short kurta

First up is the short kurta. These are light and airy, and can be paired with jeans, trousers and patialas as well. I decided to pair mine with black skinny trousers and sequin platforms. Throw in a red lip and some long earrings and you are good to go.

I would stay away from pairing them with churidars or leggings, as some of these kurtas tend to be too short for them. The one I’m wearing is from the Indigo Dreams collection. I quite like the print and the color. The blue stands out and looks very summery. The fabric seemed slightly stiff and starchy, though that might change after a wash. The fit was great apart from the sleeves which seemed too wide for me.

Name: Off white cotton straight kurta

Size: 34

Collection: Indigo Dreams

Price: INR 899

2. The knee length kurta

White kurta – Biba, Patiala – Westside, Sandals – Haute Curry, Earrings – Westside, Lipstick – Chatter Box from MAC

This second one is a longer kurta which is ideal to mix and match with other items. A white kurta is practically an essential wardrobe staple. It’s insanely versatile and can be paired with almost any kind of bottoms. Most fun are patialas and churidars in fun bright colors, especially bhandhej ones look really great. You can even add a scarf or dupatta of the same color and turn it into a salwar set.

This one had some really fun embroidery on the hem, collar and sleeves. I loved the little peacocks! I paired it with a bright orange patiala which is part of a different set I have.

The fabric was soft and comfortable, and the embroidery looked well done and bright. In all, the perfect summer kurta!

Size: 34

Collection: Gond Art

Price: INR 1599

3. The salwar set

The third is a complete salwar set. This comes complete with a kurta, a churidar and a dupatta. Good cotton salwars with interesting patterns and colors are quite difficult to find. Mostly people get the fabric and get them tailored. So I was quite surprised to find that this set actually fit me perfectly without any alterations. This one is from the Simply Royal collection. The colors are fresh and summery,  and the mint motif on the pale pink I think is the best part. Since the neckline was quite high, I paired it a pearl choker that I’ve been dying to wear.

I rarely buy complete salwar sets to be honest. It’s too much fun to buy separates and mix and match. The few that I have are made from my mom’s old silk saris that are too pretty to waste even if they are slightly old fashioned 🙂

But I quite liked this one, and some other sets on the site are quite interesting. Will definitely be checking those out.

Name: Pink Cotton Assymetric Salwar Set

Size: 34

Collection: Simply Royal

Price: INR 3799

So if you are looking to get some Indian wear this summer, do check out BIBA. Now that it has an online store, it’s pretty convenient and they even have a Rohit Bal collection! They have free delivery within India, and the option for Cash on Delivery. Shipping of an order is promised within 2-7 days on the site.

The items mentioned in this post were provided to us by the brand BIBA for the purpose of a honest review. The opinions expressed in this post are honest and unbiased, and have not by way been influenced.
