Winter in Belgium – Brussels and Bruges

7 February 2015 · 4 Comments

I made a quick trip to Belgium right after Christmas day. It was cold, it was snowing – it was lovely. We walked a lot, ate quite a bit and drank a whole lot. Most of the trip was in Brussels and we spent one day in Bruges. I highly recommend going to Belgium for a quick trip, especially during Christmas time when London is quite empty. Brussels was filled with Christmas markets, lights and music – we had a great time. On our first day or rather, evening there, we stumbled upon this light and music show taking place in the main square. It was surreal and something I can say took my breath away!

Believe it or not #nofilter

Imagine this with some amazing music playing #nofilter

Watch a little bit of this video and it will give you an idea of what was happening (try and ignore us yapping in the background!).

You can find more than 2500 different types of beer in Brussels - I have never seen such pretty beer bottles before

Tintin was created in Belgium – there are murals from the comic books all over the city centre in Brussels. As you can guess, this was was in the station.

This was so cool!

This was so cool!

Most of the pictures I have are of chocolate. Seriously, how can you resist this?

And heres a little more in case I did not completely ruin your new year resolutions yet.

Pouring some chocolate sauce (which is pretty much melted chocolate) over our waffles.

After which we ate some more.

I loved how crisp this bagel was – very different from the usual

The cafe some some fun decor – teapots as lampshades.

We had some very good Ethiopian coffee in this little cafe…

…with this ceiling.

Some sights while walking around…

…and some shopping!

Maison Dandoy – one of the oldest bakeries in Brussels (probably the oldest). We bought some melt in the mouth biscuits from here. Also, I loved the vintage cake tins on the top shelf.

There were many stores with detailed, intricate tapestries

Belgium is famous for its lace – if you are wearing a white wedding dress you want your lace to be from Belgium!

And some fun on the road!

Bruges was beautiful too!

Oh – and heres a bling motorcycle. 🙂

And finally, some fashion – courtesy the ticket checker on the train! How amazingly cool is that uniform? I would love that hat.

Hope this post has inspired you to visit Belgium. I would love to go again in the summer.
