5 Free Home Workout Options I Have Used – And Loved

18 May 2020 · Leave a Comment

Its a fact of lockdown life that my home workout is the highlight of my day. I have no idea how it came to this. However, I assume that for most of you workout at home is also the only option so a quick post about all the free home workout options could be useful. I have used and continue to use almost all of these free home workout options off and on and have to credit them for keeping me somewhat sane.

1. HIIT at Barrys or Rebel

Everyday both Barrys and Rebel have various 20 to 30 minutes HIIT classes on their Instagram live. Both DJ and I were doing these everyday for a few weeks. We just got bored like you do with most workouts and will come back to them a little later again. They are quite short so you don’t feel too lethargic committing the time. Also, I personally feel that since they are live, I feel more accountable even if the instructors cant actually see you.

They are also now offering paid classes on Zoom if thats more your thing.

2. Mobility and Stretching with East London Pilates

Similarly, at about 12 noon everyday this studio hosts live 20 minute stretching and mobility classes on their Instagram page as live videos. I would highly recommend this for anyone who is working from home without their proper office furniture in place. DJ does this regularly (its more difficult for me since work is really busy) and swears by it. Its simple exercises do don’t be intimidated and give it a go.

3. Barre at Class Pass

Class Pass has a great collection of on-demand work workout videos which you can access for free. You have a large choice of different kinds of workouts but the ones I love the most are the barre classes. They are so intense. You can also pay and do their live streaming classes which are a great option as well.

4. Yoga at Alo Yoga and Yoga by Adriene

I like Alo Yoga for their short videos targeting certain yoga poses which I find really useful. Their videos are quite detailed which I find very useful in yoga workouts at home.

Yoga by Adriene is great for beginners and the fact that she has so many free videos is just amazing. (I let the advertisements play on the videos to ensure I contribute at least something towards the free resources and she gets to make some money off it!)

5. Running

I have started running recently and its the best feeling ever. I just put on a podcast and I am off. A couple of years ago I had no stamina or energy for a run longer than a few minutes. To make sure I got better at it I did the Couch to 5K programme and read up about running posture and form. I even for a personal trainer for a few weeks and asked her to checked my running form and improved on that and now I am quite good at it.

I map and record my runs on Strava which is a little incentivising although I am not particularly competitive and just run for fun.

Free Home Workout Options

I definitely want to write more about my current workout regime but I didn’t want to make this post too long. I am sure no one has the headspace to read anything particularly long anymore. But I really hope these are helpful. I know its difficult to get into it sometimes but I would only suggest you try one or more of these and see how you feel. Please let me know if you end up trying any of these workouts and how it goes.

I am spending a lot of time and having quite a bit of fun on Instagram and on stories so check that out. And have a look at some of our previous posts where Bidisha and Satarupa both talked about their lockdown experience. If you are done with hearing about the lockdown, just check out some of our travel or fashion content which should be a good distraction!
