An Ode to the Gilet

15 November 2025 · Leave a Comment

I have worked in the city for about 12 years or so but never though I would say this. The baby banker boys are my current fashion inspiration.

red track pants and gilet

We (by which I mean I) have made fun of these boys for so long so I am slightly ashamed to admit that I am totally on the gilet train. I totally understand the appeal and the hype. Lighthouse recently offered to send me some clothing to try out and their red gilet looked so chic I asked for this (among other things!).

red gilet

I have never before considered a gilet. Somehow I never thought it would be warm enough. I mean whats the point if it doesn’t have sleeves. I see the point now! You can wear all your jumpers with the floaty sleeves and don’t have to fight with the sleeves of the jumper versus the coat sleeve. Its much more comfortable. Its much easier to put on and off and honestly, feels less of an ordeal than a coat. This Lighthouse one is also plenty warm enough for me which is saying something. I also do appreciate the fact that its water repellent so works for London’s light rain and has synthetic filling because duck down really bothers me.
