I am a woman currently in search of a house. What this actually means in real terms is that I open every property sale website, open up about a thousand tabs on each of those websites and frantically start scanning the available properties. This invariably ends with crossing all of these tabs one by one in frustration after realising almost none of them work for my budget and requirements. Then I open interior websites and blogs which is so much more inspiring and rewarding!

It, of course, has to do with the fact that instead of about 10 or so hours at home we are all spending about 22 to 24 hours at home per day. When I am spending so much time at home, I want to make it look and feel the best. I have always heard everyone say how important lighting in the home is but didn’t really prioritise it till quite recently. I think it also has to do with the fact that your home is now your office, your gym, your cinema hall and restaurant. For instance, since I live in a tiny flat so my bedroom is also my workspace. Since there is no real physical demarcation between these areas of my life anymore, lighting has really helped create a different atmosphere so the same room and space can be used for multiple things and creates a different vibe. After the basic interior fixes I did earlier in the lockdown, its was now the time to work on lighting.

We started gradually changing out all our lighting for LED lighting as and when the existing bulbs went bust. These are more energy efficient LED lights suitable for any room in the house . We also ended up taping our windows with drought excluder which helps keep the home warmer. We would usually be at work the whole day most of the week but when you are spending this much time in the home the more efficient your appliances, lighting and heating is the better.
I use a desk lamp on my workspace which focuses on the keyboard. But I also make sure to keep the curtains as far apart from the windows as possible so I can as much natural light in as possible. We make sure to eat lunch and dinner at our breakfast table which has a light overhead giving it a nice cosy vibe. On Saturday nights when we opened up a bottle of wine or poured out some whiskey we switch off all the harsh lighting and keep some soft lighting on which almost makes it feel like we are in a chic wine bar.
Although in sometime, fingers crossed we might all in reality be in a chic wine bar so lets see how that works out. We are allowed to meet another household outside so I am so looking forward to that right now. Expect a lot of Instagram photos and stories – I am so excited to be out again! Let me know what you think of this post or any other post. Of course you can leave comments on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter as well. As always, thanks for reading!
