My Skincare Routine – Products I Use and How I Found Them

7 April 2021 · 1 Comment

I have resisted doing this post for so long. Everyone who does one of these posts sounds so knowledgeable and put together I just didn’t think I had the capacity to have a skincare routine, let alone one I could brag about. This has not really changed – I am not a skincare guru suddenly – but I have a half-way decent routine figured out after years of trying everything under the sun. So more than bragging about my skincare routine, I thought it would make sense to discuss how I actually figured out a skincare routine I was happy with – products, budget and time wise. This is a basic skincare routine with steps that you can incorporate in your routine as well.

Skincare routine

My aim is to talk about my skincare routine in this post and I plan to give some tips and figure out how to actually figure out a routine and specific products that work for you in a subsequent post.

My skincare routine for the morning is on the lines below:

1. Facetheory Freshening Face Wash C4 with Aloe Vera and Green Tea Extract

Although I am still using this face wash, I realised its too drying for my very dry skin. I actually think it might be a good option for summer but probably not the best idea for winter for me. If you have less dry or oily or even normal skin this would be a better fit for you – buy all the Facetheory products from this link for 20% off.

I use this in the morning but I have to admit, there are times I don’t bother using anything else than water to wash my face in the mornings.

I also recently stated using this cleanser which I really liked as well. I may continue using this till its proper sweaty summer weather.

2. Dear Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner

I cannot live without this product as I have mentioned before. I am probably on the 5th or 6th bottle. It is a must have for dry skin and I cannot stop raving about it.

3. Paula’s Choice C15 Super Booster – buy it

I received this in the Sali Hughes X Cult Beauty box and have added it into my routine just recently. I will keep you updated on how it goes.

4. Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging 5% AHA Exfoliant – buy it

I received a sample of this with some other products I ordered so I have been using it but in all honesty I havent seen any real change or maybe the sample is too less to actually make a difference. Since I have the Vit C I mentioned in 3, I will use this one up but won’t rebuy to use. I had actually chosen this sample since I loved the 2% BHA exfoliant. I switched to this one since the BHA is for oily skin and thought this one would be better for my dry skin but I may go back to the BHA exfoliant.

I also use the Vit C in point 3 or this Vit A on point 4 alternatively, not both together. I just pick quite randomly to be honest.

(I love this brand and order regularly so they have given me a discount code for friends to use. To get the reward, click on the “Been referred by a friend?” link at the checkout and simply enter my name ‘Anisha Kohli’ or use this link.)

4. Facetheory Signature Moisturiser M1 with Hyaluronic Acid, Vit C, Vit E and Argan Oil (Unscented)

I liked this moisturiser but might need something richer for winter for my very dry skin. Love how Facetheory has options for unscented versions of most products which is the version I prefer. Buy all the Facetheory products from this link for 20% off.

5. Dear Klairs  Soft Airy UV Essence Sunscreen – buy it

I use this sunscreen or my other favourite the Lotus one. Now I have to mention there are lots of debate about the efficacy of the Klairs sunscreen so please do your own research.

My skin routine for the night is similar to the morning routine with some changes. I have not been wearing makeup since I have been at home mostly but do use the facewash in point 1 if I use sunscreen. I follow it with the toner in 2 as usual but after that skip everything and use the items below:

6. Facetheory Regenacalm 2% Retinol and Vitamin C Serum S1 with Dill, Liquorice Extract and Hyaluronic Acid

I don’t think this is as strong or effective as the Paula’s Choice one at least for me but I wanted to try this on. However, disclaimer I will be going back to my Paula’s Choice retinol after this one is over. The PC one is my regular retinol.

7. Facetheory Relaxing Night Cream With Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C

Really like this one. Its exactly as rich as I need it to be. My one complain is that its an scented one and I woud prefer unscented products. Again, use the link above to buy at a discount.

8. The Ordinary Rosehip Seed Oil – buy it

I won’t say I only use this in winter but I use this after my night cream when I feel my skin is dry. This is probably my 8th or 9th bottle of this oil since I last mentioned this brand.

So now thats my skincare routine. I should mention this is my current routine and I do switch up products sometimes but nos. 2 and the Paula’s Choice retinol are my regulars. Like promised I will definitely do a post on how to figure out your skincare routine since I know from experience how difficult this is. To prepare for that post make sure to read this one and follow us on Instagram where I post about all my beauty finds.

Thanks for reading as always.

That is some routine! I’m so bad with my skin, I just use facewash and moisturiser. I do have some other stuff but I just don’t have the time with the baby!
