How to Dress Like A New Yorker for a Day (Hint: Contains Athleisure)

Ok guys, please don’t yell at me saying ‘I am a New Yorker and I don’t dress like this’. Of course this is a bit of a hyperbole. I am being dramatic and totally stereotyping people on the basis of their clothing which is horrible but sadly also a little fun. So yes, I am going with this – I dressed like a New Yorker for a day which basically means I dressed in athleisure.

One the major differences in style choices that I found between New York and London is how casually people dress in New York. And by casual I mean in athleisure. Now this difference is also exaggerated for me since London is quite a prim proper dresser. Now I have spoken about this in detail so I don’t want to discuss that but basically talk about this outfit which I term as ‘athleisure’.

Honestly, this is something I would never wear in London, outside of the gym. I have worn it while travelling on the bus from La Paz to Uyuni but never in London outside of a gym. And this is not something I would ever have the courage to wear in London – I don’t know why but its not something I would ever wear out for a day. But New York gave me courage to try out so many styling tips, athleisure being one of them.

I was originally wearing this with my black crop top but decided to take it further and try it out with knotted tee. It looked great – for about 10 minutes. I managed to get the knot undone in less than 10 minutes! To be completely transparent, I did up the knot again for the pictures!

Hope you guys enjoyed this fun quick post. I am feeling the travel ban so reminiscing our last holiday which was in New York. I found these pictures on my phone and definitely wanted to put them up. Since we went back to India in February for Bidisha and my sister in law’s weddings so I am not counting that as a holiday as such although I count myself so lucky I was able meet family before the pandemic.
