London in Lockdown: Our Day in the Empty City

11 June 2020 · Leave a Comment

One of the first days that lockdown rules were slightly eased in London we decided to go for a long walk. It was so surreal to see the London in lockdown. Its an empty city and quite a different experience. I just wanted to show you guys some pictures of London as a empty city – like I have never seen before.

Lockdown in London Houses of Parliament It was quite fun since I ended up taking a lot of touristy photos and ended up in the areas we would usually never walk through like the crowds like Piccadilly. Are you following me on Instagram? I do remember putting up a lot of photos on Instagram that day but I also decided to save some photos for my blog.

We got so excited seeing a coffee shop that was open.

Predictably the line to get coffee was so long we had to skip it.

Lockdown in London

The lockdown in London was quite intense in the beginning (my diaries here) but by now there are definitely see more people in the streets. Its a bit stressful honestly. I have recently gone out even less since there are more people out and about and its even more difficult to avoid people than what it was in the beginning.

But London is lockdown feels surreal. You get the chance to take these photos – with not many people around. Even on Christmas day or New Years Day I have never seen London so empty.

Lockdown in London Eye

I have had my good days with London and my bad days but I do miss the city. And oddly, although I did enjoy my walk it did feel London in lockdown was a little off since it was so empty.

On the other hand, you also realise the things you miss. We wanted to avoid taking public so walked to Regents Park and back. Since its a really long walk, we got super tried and stopped to sit down and rest in a tiny park on Embankment on the way back. It was the perfect view of the London Eye and we really enjoyed our time there. I am pretty sure we would never have noticed this park in normal times.

Lockdown in London Trafalgar Square

An empty Trafalgar Square is a sight I have never seen before.

So tell me – where are you guys at? Are you going out? Are you still locked in? When do you think you will start going out? What is the first thing you want to do? You can comments below and we love getting comments and hearing from you. Also, I know I have been all over the place with my blog posting and been quite random. But I honestly, have just been posting depending on my mood. I am going back to my Monday posting now so you have been warned. You know you need to check this site every Monday. Please be safe and be well. Thank you for reading as always.
