Slow Lunching at the Petersham Nurseries and our ‘Eat-Outings’

Most of our dates and outings revolve around food but sometimes I think we are definitely the eat and run types. Both of us will look forward to eating out, we will be really hungry by the time we get to the restaurant, scoff down our food and want to get home. Going out of our way for lunch at Petersham Nurseries was a way of slowing down and enjoying our outing instead of just going out to eat. Of course it helped that it was a beautiful day. We have now made it a tradition to go for ‘eat-outings’ and I have listed out some of the restaurants that our on my bucket list for this.

First up is of course Petersham Nurseries. We went there for our anniversary lunch. The place is literally a nursery with a cafe attached to it. All food made in the cafe is local to the extent possible. I had heard so much about the place and I have wanted to visit for a long time. Now they also have a cafe in Soho but honestly, what is so special about that? I would definitely recommend going to the one in Richmond. You can reach there easily on the tube and make a day of it. The food was amazing, dessert was yummy, service was perfect and it was a lovely outing. After lunch we walked all around the nursery and their shops looking around and taking photos. I cannot recommend it enough.

The next two restaurants are those that are on my bucket list so I haven’t been yet so can’t really recommend. The River Cafe is somewhere I have wanted to go for a long time. Maybe I will get to it this year. The issue with this place is you need to choose a good sunny warm day so you can sit outside. I really don’t want to spring for this place and sit inside – from the pictures it looks quite dark and dreary inside. Or rather it doesn’t look very different from any other restaurant. If you end up going there before I do please give me the verdict!

I hate giving into the hype and admitting this but I really want to eat at Fat Duck. Its expensive and honestly, I have not yet been able to justify yet. A friend visiting from India was also keen to go but I checked the prices again and it killed me. Maybe one day? Honestly, I am not sure I am happy to spend so much on English food.

Hope you like the photos of us at Petersham Nurseries. I am already making summer plans – can’t wait for the warm weather and everything good that comes with it. I always love reading comments on the blog so please write to us. if you have other recommendations for restaurants for eat-outings let me know. Let us know in the comments  on Twitter, Facebook and of course, Instagram. And as always, thank you for reading.
