Ayurvedic Hair Care : Banjara’s Samvridhi Range

January 31, 2017 · 12 Comments

Since I’ve been back from Goa my hair just hasn’t been then same. All the swimming in the ocean definitely took its toll and it shows. My hair has become dry, coarse and so frizzy. I went for a hair spa treatment the week I got back, which helped for what felt like 2 days after which hair was pretty much back to its damaged state. So I went old school and decided to try some natural and organic hair products, and decided to try the Banjara’s Samvridhi range. This is how its been going so far.

First let me tell you my hair type. I have relatively thick, waist length dark uncolored hair. Its naturally wavy and has a tendency to get frizzy without a hair serum. My scalp gets oily after only a couple of days of washing my hair, but the rest of my hair remains dry  for 3-4 days. So I usually end up using a lot of dry shampoo to prolong my wash. These are the things I normally do to keep it healthy and long, and by normal I mean when I haven’t been spending a weak swimming in the sea 🙂

Now my hair replacement was really dry and coarse after Goa, and I could see that the ends were beyond repair. I got a trim hoping it would help but though it looked slight better it didn’t really help much with the texture. Then I tried the stuff from this Banjara’s Samvridhi range that was sent to me and I was really relieved to see considerable improvement in my hair. Out of the two things that I tried  from the range – which are the hair oil and the hair pack, the oil is definitely my favorite so lets start with that.

Banjara’s Smavridhi Hair Oil and Hair Pack

The Banjara’s Samvridhi Hair Oil is a combination Sesame oil, Coconut oil, Olive oil and Vitamin E.

Usage: Its says on the bottle that recommended usage is 3 times a week and that will result in hair growth of 8 inches in 8 weeks. You’re supposed to massage the oil into hair and scalp for 30 mins and then wash it off. Which is about the only part of the directions that followed.

My Experience:  I dont see myself ever being able to oil my hair 3 times week, so definitely didn’t do that. I’ve had this for 2 weeks and I’ve used the oil 3 times. I applied it generously from root to end and used my very meagre hair massaging skills to massage my head for maybe 5 to 10 mins. Which only shows how worried I am about my damaged hair as I’m honestly quite lazy and never do all that. I left it for 30 mins in my hair before washing it off with my regular shampoo and conditioner. The oil is light and non greasy which is a major plus is my opinion. Its has a slight herbal scent to it. I hate thick greasy oils that make my head look like a greased chicken and I usually end up washing those off in 10 mins. This one isn’t like that. After every use I could see that my hair was softer, and was getting a tiny bit shinier. And it got rid of the frizz completely! Which I would say the is biggest reason I will use this oil diligently going forward. I don’t know if it the hair growth part of it is true, but it definitely has improved the texture of my hair and made it much smoother and softer. I try new hair products all the time so I know that repeated usage is necessary to see effective results. So I was quite impressed to see the difference this oil made even after one use.  I would definitely recommend you give it a try if you can get your hands on it!

Now on to the hair pack. The Banjara’s Samvridhi Hair Pack contains Amla, Bhringraj, Hibiscus extract, Aritha, Methi, Shikakai, Bramhi, Henna, Neem and Tea Tree. If you don’t know what half these things are don’t feel bad, I don’t either. But I do know they are all good for my hair 😀

Usage: You take a decent amount and apply gently only to the roots of the hair and the scalp. Leave it in for 15-20 mins and them wash it off with luke warm water. Recommended usage is once a week.

My Experience: I’ve used this once so far. I was happy that I only needed to apply to the roots of my hair and scalp because honestly I would have used up the whole tube if I had to apply it to all my hair. It has a grainy texture and smells and looks like henna, which makes sense as henna is one of its ingredients. I left it for 20 mins and washed it off. The bottle actually says that you don’t need shampoo to wash it off as it lathers on its own. Which didn’t really happen for me, I definitely needed shampoo to wash all of it off. I did not not see any visible results after one usage like the oil so maybe I need to use a few more times for that. I do like to try multiple products from a range as I feels like its designed to be more effective that way so I’m going to keep using the pack some more before I make up my mind about it.

So the oil is definitely my pick out of the two, if you want to try one thing from this range then go for that. My hair looks and feels much healthier now than a week ago and the only new things I’ve been using are these products. I’m going to continue to use them and let you guys know how it goes.

Sat, have you styled your hair or did it look like this naturally after drying? I’ve used Banjara products but was not too impressed in the first go.

Hi Lucy, I blow dried it after wash which I normally always do. Have you tried the oil? That I feel is the most effective product I’ve tried from the brand so far. Really made a difference to my hair.

Always sceptical to use hair care products but have heard a lot about this brand.

Hey Leia! All you can do is try the shampoos for dry hair and see what suits you. But I would also suggest make sure not to shampoo too often because the more your hair is stripped of natural oils the more oil it produces.
