It’s been more than two years since we’ve been running Fashion and Frappes. When we started out I didn’t know how long this would last. But we’ve survived (and thrived!) and this blog has become an important part of our lives.
Anyway…so what’s new?
This Diwali, we would like to introduce you to our first collection of saris – ZARI by Fashion and Frappes. These are now available in our Shop section. ZARI by Fashion and Frappes is a set of saris made of pure georgette or chiffon, with a little bit of embroidery (called zari). The dominant theme is pastels.
For me, it all began when I was looking for saris for my wedding. I wanted a simple but quality fabric rather than a typical wedding sari. Most of the saris I liked were designer labels with their crazy designer price tags. The really traditional saris were too heavy and elaborate. Eventually, I ended up buying fabric that I liked and turning it into my wedding sari. As you may have seen elsewhere on the blog, all three of us really enjoy making our own saris.
The realisation that it was almost impossible to find a quality sari that suited our taste and, more importantly, our budget was the starting point for ZARI by Fashion and Frappes.
The only test for whether a particular sari makes it into our collection is whether we would wear it ourselves. These are saris we love, saris we would wear, saris we would recommend to our friends. We have been careful to make sure that these saris are versatile. You can wear these for your friend’s wedding but also for a fancy art gallery opening. Our aim is to basically make the little black dress of saris!
There are little details you will appreciate. The blouses are as distinct as the saris themselves. A petticoat is included so that you have everything you need in one little box. Every sari is (and will remain!) absolutely unique. Since we have only piece of each sari so if you really like something we would recommend picking it up quickly. Postage in India is free.
We were initially aiming for ten saris but decided that we wanted every sari to be absolutely perfect so this collection has a total of eight. We hope to have more included soon.
We want you to wear ZARI by Fashion and Frappes again and again and hope these saris see a lot of good times! Most importantly we hope you love wearing the saris as much as we loved making them.
