If you follow me on Instagram you will already have some idea what JAMA is! JAMA by Fashion and Frappes is a new collection of 12 outfits – 3 dresses, 3 shirt and short sets and 6 kurta top and trouser sets designed by my sister, Bidisha. Jama means clothing in our mother tongue Bengali and the word itself conjures up lazy summer lounging to me. You can shop them here and we hope you like it as much as we do! It all started with Bidisha making herself a pyjamas adjacent set for summer and uploading a photo of herself wearing a pink set and a blue set on Instagram. She got a lot of messages from people asking her about the set – where she got it from and could she get one made for them? So thats what we did!
Everything is made of Indian cotton and all of it is made in India as well and needless to say sweatshop free. In fact, the tailor, Huzed, who made the items is someone Bidisha has known and worked with for about 14 years now. As you can guess, these are all made in small batches and there is only one of each item made in that particular colour. I am not trying to be click baity but if you do like something, please pick it up since it might not be possible to remake the exact same item. Of course, we will try our best but it also depends on the available materials and whether its possible to dye fabrics so I just want to put that out there.
Our intention with this collection is to have something easy and comfortable to wear in the summer, which can be dressed up or dressed down as you choose. The dresses are good for a sunny brunch, as beachwear over a swimsuit or just lounging around in the home instead of a nightie. The shorts and shirt sets work as a pulled together outfit or you can break it up as you wish, wearing just the shorts with a plain white tee or the shirt with jeans or cotton trousers. The kurta top and trouser sets are an easy wear as well and perfect for a lazy weekend or brunch, the beach or even as fancy slumber party wear. Our hope is the items are easy to wear in a number of different ways and you will get repeat wear out of them, whether as a set or as separates.
