The London Uniform: What To Wear In London

I cannot think of a single thing you can wear in London which would feel out of place but I wanted to give examples of actual practical items Londoners usually wear. As a fashion blogger I keep an eye out and like to notice what people wear and this is what I would consider to be the London uniform – which I love. And Acne Studios is definitely the perfect brand to bring to life the London uniform – elevated basics is the way to go!

Black Chelsea boots

I know its odd to start with shoes but I can’t think of an article of clothing that I consider a more perfect idea of the London look than Chelsea boots. I think these boots are so popular in London especially because of the weather. These work for winter as well as autumn and spring – so thats about 90% of London weather covered. There are very few days when you can wear sandals in London. You remember how I have been obsessed with the Acne Studios Chelsea boots? I have been wearing these Zara ones are great too and if you have been my previous posts you know I have almost worn these out but the Acne Studio ones are my dream Chelsea boots!

Skinny jeans

I would go for black jeans over blue ones. Black jeans are a little more put together and less casual than blue jeans. Since dress code wise London is not really a casual city this is perfect. Of course if its an even more formal setting, then skip the ripped jeans.

A shirt or a tee

Depending on the weather, this can be the layering piece under the jumper or wear as is. If I am wearing as is, it can’t get better than a basic white tee. Here I am wearing a basic white tee but since its still quite cold I threw on my mum’s old fluffy white turtleneck.

A thin jumper or sweatshirt

I specifically mention thin because you would think a chunky jumper would be warmer but chunky knitwear is not a great option for London. You will have to wear a jacket anyway and anytime you are indoors – tube, bars, shops – its too hot in a chunky cardigan. In London layering is way to go.

Black leather jacket (or faux leather)

You guys already know about my leather jacket obsession but I do like the shape of this one I picked up almost 5 or so years ago.

Pastel leather jackets were also popular but if you want something with staying power a black one can’t be beat. I have seen a lot of people ditching the (faux) leather jacket for a denim one but the weather the way it is right now – a (faux) leather jacket is definitely more appropriate.

Accessories

Accessories would include statement or delicate necklaces, simple earrings and rings, a tote or similar bag (its not a stretch to say that Michael Kors bags are the uniform bags everyone seems to carry for now – I am not a fan though), full face make-up (doesn’t mean over-the-top but there are very few women in London without make-up), a scarf, an umbrella and maybe a hat.

Outfit details: (faux) leather jacket, white turtleneck jumper, white tee shirt, skinny black distressed jeans, Chanel boy bag (in white), rose gold necklace (similar), black Chelsea boots and white hair band.

Disclaimer: the articles I picked were some basic ones for a typical day in London (maybe right now). What you wear will change drastically in freezing weather or when London is in the middle of a heat wave so please use some judgement. And needless to say, what you wear will also be different if you are going to work in the city or going out in the night or at a formal event.

Hope you guys enjoyed scrolling through the Kture website and doing some online shopping. There are so many variations of this London uniform that looks great. You can mix and match the layers to suit the weather and event. I hope to get similar outfits to show you on the blog soon! I hope you are already following us on Instagram? Of course we are on Facebook, Twitter and all the rest and would love to hear from you.

That outfit does look very London, the style there is very urban and casual and your outfit translates it very well.

100% agree! I can never tire of leather jackets. Which boots do you have? I think these Zara ones were on their last legs and I am in the market for one!

I always find it hard figuring out what to wear especially having to get the tube daily, but thanks for the tips on layering! I love this outfit on you.

London is so eclectic that you could wear a fluffy flamingo outfit and no-one would bat an eyelid, but I do love your understated fashion choice – I love Chelsea boots too – so comfy

I love your jacket! Although living in London myself I would say the jumper would be far to warm for me… It’s so built up where I live you never really feel the elements ha! x

Thank you. The jacket was something I picked up so many years ago from Forever 21 but I love the style of it. The jumper would be warm for most people unless its summer – for me its essential since I am always cold.
