Not Your Ordinary Schoolgirl Pinafores – Edgy, Cool and Effortless

5 December 2015 · 6 Comments

I am totally eating my hat right now. I remember making fun of friends who wore (or rather had to wear) pinafores to school. Luckily I escaped that. And I never thought I would wear pinafores voluntarily. And definitely not pretend my normal dresses were pinafores.

Zara green leather pinafore

But I just ordered this green (faux) leather pinafore. I am officially a fan.

Its actually pretty predictable that pinafores are on trend now. They are the perfect layering piece. These are the three I liked quite a bit.

River Island Denim Pinafore front slit

Stradivarius Black deep neck pinafore

Zara Colour block pinafore

  1. Black front-slit denim pinafore – the perfect casual dress!
  2. Deep neck sleeveless black pinafore with piping – perfect for work and perfect for turtlenecks!
  3. Colour blocked shift pinafore dress – perfect to blend in with the autumn colours!

(Sorry, but the first faux leather green one is from Zara and was sold out over the weekend – what can I say? I have great taste!)

And now on how to wear? Thats easy. With everything – turtlenecks, high neck, shirts, blouses, crop tops. I love the idea of denim and leather pinafore with shirts, and if your pinafore is fancy then just try it with a plain tee underneath. The contrast is interesting.

Highly recommend hunting for an old pinafore in your closet. If that doesn’t work then happy shopping!

I used to like them but I’ve found that they don’t suit me so I’ve given them up but I love seeing them on other people

I thought the same (since I have short legs) but I do think tailoring and fit and cut makes a big difference!
