Strange Clothes That Make You Wonder What Were They Thinking?

15 March 2017 · 12 Comments

There are some clothes that make you go wow. And then there are the strange clothes that make you go what the hell is that. For the wow ones look at any Indian bridal collection or couture show. For the other ones, read on.

I was browsing the internet and checking out my favourite stores like you usually do, online window shopping is what I call it. I saw this sleeveless sweatshirt which looked somewhat interesting so clicked to check it out. This is the horror I found. You can see the picture of the front of the sweatshirt which did not prepare me for this.

So I thought it would be interesting to talk (and make fun of) clothes like this. Now I like fun clothes, edgy clothes, interesting crazy clothes – I am all for it. And yes, I’ll admit it, I am suspicious of most trends but there are some I can get onboard with. But something like this is just inexplicable. What went through the designer’s mind? How did she justify it? How about the people who approved the design? What were they thinking? And who bought this? How do they wear it? Why do they wear it? I have so many questions!

And I have the same question about the rest of the clothes on this list. And some more.

This item is named the extreme crop top. And extreme it is. Extremely confusing. Extremely strange. Extremely ridiculous. You can check out the rest of the pictures of the “top” but I have to warn you – it doesn’t get less confusing.

This is not underwear but it is also not clothing. I don’t know how this item can be categorised. I was just trying to imagine the whole act of purchasing this item. I can totally imagine the sales people at the counter rolling their eyes at anyone who picks this up and takes it to the checkout. How are the people who work in the store able to control their laughter? How is the person buying this item able to without embarrassment. Then I realised this item is an ‘online exclusive’. That made a lot more sense. But also let me to ask a lot of other questions.

Now lets come to my favourite store, Zara. I’ll be the first to admit that I find even the strangest items in Zara charming. And fun and edgy and cool. Everything is styled great. I have so many friends who make fun of the store’s ridiculous sizing and general strangeness but I have zero self-control when it comes to Zara. But that doesn’t mean I want everything they have. Especially not this skirt.
Zara long denim skirt strange clothesI was looking for jeans and had typed in denim when this came up on the website. First I though it was a pair of jeans till I saw the description and the pictures properly. I understand crazy denim is the newest trend but this was less crazy and more in the category of strange clothes that cannot be explained. Or justified.

Now I remember when we were in school, Satarupa had a long denim skirt with a slit in the middle. It was pretty cool – it looked strangely elegant and still casual. So I am not opposed to denim skirts, slits or even the distressed concept. What I am opposed to is flashing people even while wearing a skirt that touches the ground. Its odd that your concern while wearing a skirt that touches the ground is that you may end up flashing people. The only concern while wearing such a skirt is usually to make sure you don’t trip and fall. And thats how fashion intended it.

Which brings me to my next problem and the second part of my analysis. The intriguing part was its not the whole skirt that touches the ground, thats not the style. Nor is it touching the ground because its too long. Only parts of it touches the ground. Why? How can grazing dirt on the streets be the intention, style and design of a garment? Then I realised what I was doing wrong – analysing the practicality of crazy fashion. So its all my fault.

Anyway hope this made a laugh a tiny bit. Its only Wednesday and I can’t wait for the weekend already. And if you have pictures to add to this list please send it my way. I can add it to the crazy list. You can send this to us my email or any social media account – we are everywhere! Have you been checking out our Instagram stories? And I thought the craziest fashion item I had seen was ripped jeans, ripped so much that there was practically no denim from the thigh till the ankle. Wait.. Isn’t like shorts but with denim around the ankle??
These items definitely make it to the top for the list.

I really hate those excessively ripped jeans. I also think I am too classic in taste for ripped jeans – I ended up slitting the knees for my jeans in a really dainty way! But yeah – these ones are particularly ridiculous.
