TV, Books and Podcasts – What I Binged On in November

30 November 2020 · Leave a Comment

Hello! Would you believe I actually missed writing? I though for my first post back it would be appropriate to talk about what I actually did in November and recommend the books and movies and TV shows and podcasts I was binging on.

autumn scenes November

I would love some recommendations from you as well. So let me know what I missed in November so I can line that up for December! Now some of this might be covering October as well since I read so many books at the same time, I sometimes end up finishing many books at the same time.

TV Shows

Of course needless to say I finished watching the new season of the Crown. Honestly though – I was disappointed. The whole back and forth of Diana and Charles was quite tedious by the end of it. I pretty much stopped caring about them. I loved the scene with the intruder in Buckingham Palace and the scene with the Commonwealth.

The other two shows I watched that I would actually highly recommend are the Morning Show and Defending Jacob. They were both fantastic and perfect for lockdown watching. The Morning Show was surprisingly right on point about some very current issues. Defending Jacob is basically a thriller with some court scenes which is my most favourite thing to watch. Give me anything with a trial and I love it!

Would also recommend Love Life. Really easy watching about a woman based in New York and her many relationships and breakups.

Books

Just before the second lockdown started we went to a bookshop and got ourselves some books to read. I am currently reading the Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman which is one of those books you can read over a lazy weekend. The other one I am currently reading is the New Wilderness by Diane Cook, which was one of the Booker shortlists. This is not a book I would usually read – its probably under the genre of science fiction although I would say climate crisis dystopia is a more apt description. Its the climate issue part of it that drew me to the book and its been quite interesting.

I also ended up reading some really fun thrillers and mysteries.

– Behind Closed Doors

– The Dilemma

– Just My Luck

– The Hunting Party

I am also reading Plastic Free which is the history of the plastic free movement. I would actually recommend this book even if you are not really into the whole zero waste idea. Its just so inspiring to see how a small idea can grow into a world-wide movement.

The Lowland November

I also ended up ticking off some books from my original 2020 reading list – the Lowlands by Jhumpa Lahiri and the Reader by Bernard Schlink. I cannot recommend the Lowlands enough. An absolutely hauntingly gorgeous book. You can buy all the books on this list on Bookshop.org which is a collection of independent bookstores – definitely so much better than Amazon!

Podcasts

First and foremost, go and listen to my new podcast, The Eat Watch and Binge Read Podcast! (Sorry, I had to!)

One of my favourite podcasts, the High Low is sadly coming to an end. The other ones I have been hooked on are the Bad on Paper Podcast and At Home With Lily and Anna. They are all similar with casual conversation about tv, fashion, books and general life so very easy to listen to. Love listening to these while on a walk.

For news and politics I would recommend the Daily and Today in Focus. And for very in-depth politics the Ezra Klien Show and the Seen and the Unseen are fantastic.

After this renewed interest in Diana and the royal family I also listening to Even the Rich. They have a series of episodes that talk about Diana and Meghan Markel which is quite a fun listen.

So now you know everything I did in November! Tell me what you did in lockdown in November and if you have any recommendations for December. I will be back to posting every Monday so please come back and take a look. And I am back on Instagram as well! I did actually miss all the DM conversations. In my view thats the best part of Instagram!

Thank you for reading as always.

– Anisha
