Who would have thought I could claim I went to the beach over the weekend at work on Monday morning living in London? One of my friends came up with this fantastic plan of spending a day at the beach and I couldn’t think of a better way to start August. So on Saturday, we woke up early in the morning, packed up our beach stuff and drove 2 hours to the Camber Sands Beach near Rye.
Beach Day Prep – Things to Take Along
Luckily our friends had a beach tent so that was taken care of. Now you don’t actually even need a tent as such, you can hire parasols, inflatables and other beach equipment from the shops just near the beach so just relax!
The other things we took along are:
Food and drink
- Mixed drinks (we took mixed gin and tonic tins – easier to drink and easy to recycle)
- Bottled beer
- Home made sandwiches in reusable boxes
- Reusable water bottle (the store selling beer helpfully filled up our bottle, no issue!)
- Apples and other fruits you want to munch on
- Some chocolate
- Nuts and other snacks
- A plastic bag for garbage
- Beach towels
- A stole
- A book – my reading list is here
- Reusable water bottle
- Sunscreen (make sure its safe for the sea)
- A straw hat
- Hair accessories (since it might be windy)
Disclaimer: please don’t but new things to take along to the extent possible! Use everything you have in your home to the beach and bring it all back. The less expensive your beach day is the better!
Outfit details: white striped shorts (similar), blue Jockey tee (borrowed from DJ), straw beach bag, black sandals, wooden pendant necklace from Kruger, drop ‘anchor’ earrings, scarf from Erdem x HM (worn as headband), mirror sunglasses from Rayban.
I really hope you have noticed the major nautical theme going on in my outfit? I have about 4 pairs of black shorts, 1 pair of white shorts and this 1 pair of striped shorts (ones I am wearing). I really went back and forth about which pair of shorts to wear. I was keen to wear a pair of the black shorts so I could pair a white tee with it but I just wasnt happy with the outfit. Then when I tried out my white tee with these striped shorts it just looked weird – they were not the same exact shade of white since they are different materials so it just looked off. I finally decided to steal DJs basic navy blue Jockey tee and knot it up in front to make it fit me. I loved the look! Perfect casual chic beach day outfit.
Then after I got ready, while I was waiting for my friends to pick me up I started hovering around my dressing table. I picked up my ‘anchor’ earrings and then found my blue Erdem x HM scarf which I thought would be a perfect thing to wear since the car we were going on was a convertible so it’s almost mandatory!
(Please don’t miss DJs adorable sailboat tee!)
Camber Sands Beach
We decided to hire a cute little Mini Cooper convertible just for the fun of it. Now honestly, it’s not the most comfortable experience since it started getting cold and it’s quite noisy when you are going fast against the wind but I thought all the discomfort was totally worth the experience. We played songs from ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ with the roof down and it was a blast!
My best piece of advise is to make sure you go early in the day to get a prime spot on the beach! It gets super crowded quite soon especially if it’s a nice day. Also make sure that you settle down way behind the tide line – the tide is quite aggressive and comes way into the beach. This is quite difficult to tell when the tide is out but stay near the dunes and you will be fine.
On our way back we stopped for a gin at a cute pub and then for dinner along the way.
The family in front of us in the beach had this major sand castle and moat project going where the moat was extended in order to catch the tide. It was so fun to watch and we were very invested in this construction by the end of it!
So thats it for my beach day! If you have any other beach suggestions for me please list them in the comments. I would definitely like to hit another nearby beach before the end of summer but lets see if that works out. Hope you guys enjoyed the post and the pictures. If you are planning more extensive beach holidays, check out this post. You can drop by on Instagram and of course we are on Facebook, Twitter and all the rest and would love to hear from you.
