My Only Style Rule When Getting Dressed

2 June 2016 · 11 Comments

You know the stereotype – women take really long to get dressed? Or rather take a long time to choose their clothes? Or whatever.

I personally don’t find a lot of truth in that statement either when its me or the general women around me. I don’t really take a long time to get dressed since most of the time I already know what I am going to wear. This is because I have one style rule I swear by when dressing. It helps me look myself and keep outfit regrets to the minimum.

Style rule leather shorts and cardigan

The basic rule is to wear items that have contrasting vibes. Yup – thats it!

Outfit details: Faux leather shorts from H&M (similar), Peter Pan embellished collar blouse from Pimkie (similar), mirror sunglasses (similar) and pointed tassel flats (similar) from Mango, blue cardigan from United Colour of Benetton, tights from ASOS and bag is of an unknown brand.

So for instance when picking this outfit when starting out with the leather shorts which are a bit edgy (for lack of  a better description), I added in the super feminine embellished Peter Pan collar blouse and the slightly preppy pointed flat loafers. The soft, cosy vibe of the blue cardigan provided more contrast. Instead of my slightly punk look Chanel boy bag, I added in this proper preppy bag as well (a-la-Taylor Swift which is far from my usual style). I also made sure my lipstick was nice and neutral instead of my usual bright pops of red or pink.

You will see a similar breakdown to this outfit where I paired a formal shirt with a leather dress. Another one is this outfit with a party skirt and a basic tee. Most of my outfits will definitely ensure this style rule is followed.

The one outfit I can think of where I went all out with one particular vibe is this shirtdress. I loved the pictures and the dress but its definitely not within my comfort zone.

I don’t take too long to get dresses either. My rule is, always a pattern or colour in the outfit. Both if possible which it usually is. I don’t like to feel boring

Thats a good rule – patterns and solids! I am always too chicken for pattern thought – maybe have 2 things with pattern! Maybe I need to try out your style rule and stop being so boring!

I often joke with my husband about him taking longer to get ready then i do! My rule is to wear something simple and easy as well you be wearing it all day and you want some quick to take off when you so you can change into your PJs! If you get my meaning. xx

Also wanted to add – if it’s something I am going to spend the day in it definitely has to be super comfortable!

Thats a good one! Honestly I am too scared to mix patterns but maybe I need to try it out.

It takes me hardly 15 minutes for casual dressing. A comfortable top and a pair of denims to go with…that’s my preference…
