I have never really understood the concept of clothes for a particular occassion or place. Unless your workplace is extremely formal and you need to wear a suit to work everyday, buying clothes for a particlar place or reason has never appealed to me.
Of course there is an exception for this like weddings and other once in a lifetime events (hopefully!). But other than this, buying clothes for a holiday or for a particular event just tells me that we either don’t know how to style our clothes correctly or the wardrobes we have is not working for our real lives.
I don’t have a lot of clothes that are functional only for a specific purpose. The exceptions would include the saris I own, which I would mostly wear to Indian weddings; the Erdem HM ball gown dress I own which is mostly for black tie or super fancy events and a suit which I would probably only wear to work. The rest of my clothes need to function for my life in general – not my life for a particular day.
Outfit details: white beach dress from UK Swimwear, brown wedge heels from Topshop (similar 1, 2 and 3), round rimmed gold glasses from Stradivarius (similar), gold oversized clutch by Sejal Katkoria (similar 1 and 2), earrings from Forever 21 (these ones are really old and this one was the closest similar earrings I could find) and lipstick from Colorbar.
So with this aim in mind I decided to wear this white beachy dress on a windy summer day. What can I say, I live in London windy summer days are totally normal. And remember when I wore another beachy dress in the city?
I loved the dress – super comfy, with some really lovely details. Although it works in the city as well, I can see why it is an especially useful beach dress since it has lot of details – shells and ties and tassels which lets you keep your accessories to the minimum which is what it should be for a beach day!
I paired it up with my brown wedges. Now these are the only brown shoes I own and I just don’t like the idea of cream clothing with black accessories. In my head that just doesn’t work. I added in this oversized envelope clutch bag which coincidentally is what I wore for my wedding!
Needless to say this is going to be the last of my summer dressing. Now the challenge will be to wear this in the winter. Lets see if I can manage that!
Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Let me know if you are one of those people who buy an outfit for an event? Are you trying to make sure your wardrobe works for all parts of your life? Let me know what your situation is and what you are aiming to achieve with your wardrobe. This is a conversation I am very interested to have!
