A Different Goan Holiday

2 October 2016 · 18 Comments

I love Goa. By now I have stopped counting the number of times I’ve been there but you know what, you never get tired of it.Β After shooting and working like crazy a Goan holiday is exactly what my boyfriend Akshay and I needed.

Beautiful goan river

I am a meticulous traveller, all my bookings have to be done right, for hotels and flights, I have to check in prior to travelling, pack extra clothes and make sure to reach the airport well in time. Hounded Akshay on the details quite a bit even while at work! I know sounds boring but when you’ve been travelling non stop all your life, flying every now and then, it gets like that. Once it was all sorted we were ready for off-season Goa!

June to mid October is pretty much off-season. The rains are harsh and the winds strong, but when we landed the weather was perfect and stayed that way for our entire trip. It was pleasant, windy, the sun was out and rain less. Evenings get a bit chilly but I anticipated that and carried a light jacket.

There are few things that you should know about Goa, the alcohol prices vary a little bit. The shops near the airport and commercial areas were more expensive while the ones in small areas and interiors are cheaper. The prices of stock is different. Absolute vodka was 1950 INR in some places while 1750 INR in others, Jack Daniels new stock is cheaper 3100 while the old ones were 3400-3700 inr. So do good research before buying alcohol if you plan on taking back home.

The drive from the airport to our first resort was one and a half hours. Long but pretty. We were staying at Riva resort for 2 nights. The resort had a small river running in front of it and the beach just ahead of that, it had a lovely pool overlooking both. The first day itself we decided to go kayaking and it was fun but then your arms start hurting and you just want to reach the land. Anisha and me had tried it once in Phi Phi Island and I remember clearly that by the end of it we had left our oars and just started signaling people to get out of our way.

Now even though it was September and off season in Goa the shacks in Arambol were open so were the ones in Baga, Calangute side. We went to Brittos and spent a whole day there eating, drinking and chilling. Lot of people keep saying the food is not that great anymore but I quite liked it and overall it was great fun. If you are that side Cavala is a must, very Goan viba, great food and one of my most favourite places in Goa.

Our next resort was a lovely beach side resort called La Cabana, and the food there was very good. Our last night in Goa was a fun experience. We drove to Panjim city and went to the Deltin Royale Casino. Sadly no pictures were allowed inside nor did I win anything but it was a fun night and the best way to spend the last day of our holiday. The casino is located on a yacht and you are taken there by boat. Overall a great 5 day trip and trust me end of monsoon is also a perfect time to go if you want to just relax and take some time out for breathing.

Sounds like the trip that my sister and I took to Goa. We stayed at south Goa and hit all the silent beaches and did nothing but eat and drink. best holiday ever.
