Sezane: Silk Maxi Dress Review for Petite Figures

26 April 2021 · 2 Comments

Although this review is for this specific Sezane silk maxi dress, most of what I say here can be applied to other Sezane silk dresses.

Sezane silk dress

You have probably realised I have a bit of an obsession with silk dresses and I think Sezane is one of the best brands for this! I am not the biggest fan of yellow clothing but I loved this one so much I bought it.

The Shopping Experience

I’ll be honest – I do not remember when I bought the dress but I think it was along with my white jeans. DJ really loved it and encouraged me to get so I went for it. I bought it from the Sezane section of Selfridges. Its really well done up in one corner of the third floor of the department store. However, from what I hear, this section is now closed and if you want to buy Sezane in London you will have to go out all the way to their store in

Sizing and Fit

This is a great dress for me. Of course, being as short as I am I had to get it altered a bit. I had a little bit taken off the hem. I have the part that was cut off and have kept it to be used as a neckerchief or belt to be worn with the dress.

Design

I loved the design and its versatility. It can be worn both ways – with the buttons in front or buttons at the back. One of the other reasons I liked the idea of this dress it gave me major Indian wear vibes. I also plan to get straight trousers made in yellow silk to wear it like a kurta so any Indian wear occasions. I just didn’t have time to get the trousers made for Bidisha’s wedding but really wish I had had the time since it would be the perfect mehendi outfit. Since I didn’t have the time to get trousers tailored, I just wore it as is like a dress.

Quality

I find Sezane to be of really good quality when it comes to silk, wool and cotton. I have one silk shirt and this silk dress and a wool jumper from them. This Sezane silk dress is much heavier and not as thin as the Realisation Par silk dress – I suspect its of better quality. It has has a lining which is great since its quite a summary breezy dress with an A-line cut so things could get awkward otherwise.

Outfit details: yellow silk maxi dress from Sezane (available now), thick gold hoops from One Scoop Store (similar), black slippers (similar) and basket bag from Morocco (similar).

Maintenance

Like all silk items, maintence is not the easiest. I have dry cleaned this dress once but will probably hand wash it going forward.

Price

It is not a cheap dress but honestly, as silk dresses go, it is not an expensive one. Infact, from one of the better brands out there its probably one of the cheapest you can find. For instance, Zara mentions a silk blend dress for £109 although the actual silk component is 20% so this is much better value. This one was under £200 although I did pay a little more to get it hemmed short.

A word of caution though – Sezane has unfortunately has become a little expensive after Brexit due to the additional taxes you now have to pay on items from Europe. So please ensure you are aware of what the actual price along with custom charges would be.

Summary – Will I Buy Again?

Will I buy a Sezane silk dress again? Most definitely yes. But my next one is probably going to be a shorter length since along with the Realisation Par dress I already have two longer length silk dresses.

I already cant wait to wear this dress again this summer – really looking forward to it! You can be rest assured there will be lost of posts on Instagram about it. In the meantime, check out what I have been wearing this spring.
