Clothing Items I Don’t Buy Anymore

19 July 2021 · Leave a Comment

I have been trying to do a no-buy year so haven’t actually bought too much clothing this year anyway. However, even apart from that I have made a policy decision not to buy the following items – no exceptions. So I haven’t bought these items in the last 5-6 years or so.

  1. High Heels

After moving to London, I bought two pairs of heels. I have to say I have barely worn them. I still managed to get some wear out of the black strappy ones – they are good for slightly formal events and work in the summer months but have barely worn the silver ones.

My policy on this is shorter heels are ok, kitten heels for instance is fine. Even slightly higher heels if they are wedge heels work. For instance, I wear these wedge heels quite often but the high stiletto heels do not work for my lifestyle any longer.

2. Bodycon Dresses

Honestly, even at the height of their fashion I was not a major fan of bodycon dresses or clothing. However, I do own about 4 dresses which can be described as fitted if not bodycon. Needless to say, I have worn one of these about once in the last few years.

I do like the idea of a fitted knit dress but I have a very specific one in my head so unless its a midi and fits well no more fitted dresses and definitely no more bodycon for me. The look is just difficult to get right and its just not a trend that works for my taste and style rule.

3. Trendy Items

After years of not caring about trend items and skipping trends, I realised for me, its not like I hate all trends. Its just that for me the trends I like become actual long-term features of my wardrobe (note point 5). So even if I do end up wearing a trendy item, I don’t jump on the trend bandwagon till its not a trend anymore.

4. Buy First Hand What I Can Buy Second Hand

The heading pretty much sums it up but I cannot believe I was wasting so much money and encouraging so much waste by buying things first hand since the second hand market is flourishing! There are a lot of advantages to buying second hand clothing not including price so I doubt if I will buy an item first hand when I can find the same second hand.

5. Novelty Items

I bought a really fun headband to wear to Ascot. It was really fun to wear. To Ascot. Its not something I will wear in normal life – and I wear elaborate headbands in normal life (posts one, two, three and four)! This one is just too Ascot centric and really not my style. I bought it 5 years ago and probably wouldn’t buy it again but I am stuck with it. I have listed it on Vinted and will try to get rid of it every other way I can but I feel too guilty to just throw it away.

Clothing Items I Don't Buy Anymore

Hope you enjoyed the post and it has managed to give you some time and space to think about your shopping choices and the items you don’t buy anymore or wouldn’t buy in the future. I would love to hear from you guys on atleast one kind of item you wouldnt but and why. I hope you are already following us on Instagram? Of course we are on Facebook, Twitter and all the rest and would love to hear from you.
