Croatia: Beaches, Forests and Game of Thrones

18 April 2016 · 3 Comments

This is so embarrassing. I am about half a year late writing about our Croatia trip. But in my defence, I was travelling a lot at that time and then Diwali, Christmas and New Year rolled up and I forgot. And I avoided doing the work. I know you don’t feel sorry for me but I am sorry.

I forgot till I came across the Croatia pictures Bidisha emailed me. These pictures deserve to be seen. I thought since I am Indian and have been around in India – I have seen everything. But this is not something I had seen before.

Like almost everyone else, before I got to Croatia, I pretty much summed up the country as a beach paradise. Well, I wasn’t complaining. But then you realise that Croatia is so much more.

We landed and met up in Split where we stayed for about 3 days. Its  a great city for a bee since there are lots of buses talking you all over Croatia. We actually skipped Dubrovnik, where the Game of Thrones is actually shot. This is of course, a major tourist hot spot right now and very very crowded so we decided next time!

One of our day trips from Split was this island called Brac. It was a one hour ferry ride – the ferry ride itself was quite spectacular. We spent the whole day in Brac lounging by this seaside cafe, drinking cocktails, eating and chatting – which was exactly what we needed!

Beach Brac Croatia seasideOne thing though – there isn’t much of a beach to Brac. So don’t go expecting to sunbathe. Most of the beaches we saw were actually not sandy beaches.

Watching the sun go down was beautiful. We did nothing the whole day but it was a day well spent.

One thing we all noticed about Croatia – the water is a colour I have not seen before, in India or otherwise in Europe. Its not just blue, its a fantastic, deep, shiny, jewel-tone blue. I cannot think of anything more original than that, its breathtaking.

Remember I said that Croatia is so much more than a beach paradise? Thats what I am coming to. The Plitvice Lakes National Park. Its a World Heritage Site and like nothing you have ever seen before. Beautiful, green trees and high waterfalls – its definitely something to see.

I know this is picture heavy and might take time to load but I really didn’t want to cut out any more pictures! I already cut out quite a lot of them! Hope you enjoyed the pictures. So have we managed to convince you to get yourself to Croatia? Feel free to share with any friends you need to convince! If you have any questions, let us know and we will try our best to answer them. If you have any tips about visiting Croatia have your say in the comments!

Only three photographs have been brightened. None of the photographs have been filtered or edited.

Croatia is indeed such a beautiful place to visit. I agree though that Dubrovnik needs a specific time for it due to its fame (thanks to game of thrones). They do have a lot of beaches that are really super nice that you want to take a swim in it. But I do so look forward to visiting the old city as it is just one of a kind and simply breathtaking and not to mention a GOT location.
